Learning the Fife
Fife music suffused the United States throughout the HIST 1301 period. A field instrument of ancient origin, the fife could be heard on the battlefield, in military camps, on parade, and in taverns and community celebrations. Many fife tunes had lyrics that made American ideals understandable to common people. This semester, you have the chance to learn "the ancient musik."
Come to five practices during the semester. Lessons are held the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month in D-204 (check the practice schedule page for any changes). We start 20 September. We go from 0900 to 0930.
You'll need a plastic fife ($10) and the group needs a manual. Total cost is about $12. Livingston will collect and make one order to save shipping.
Extra credit for making 5 lessons (+2 extra credit).
